Temple Distribution: Smart Tables
The more you show, the more you sell.
Want to learn to set up a Smart Table in your temple and to get involved in the book distribution mission? Vaisheshika dasa explains how.
Set up a table in a temple area easily accessible to guests--in the entrance hall if it is large enough, for instance. Make an attractive display with Srila Prabhupada's books. It’s often helpful to have a poster or other form of artwork on the wall behind the table--something that illustrates an episode from one of the books you have on the table.
It's nicest if someone can talk to the guests about the books as they approach the table. If this is not possible, the table can function as a vending machine if you
- put price labels on each book
- a locked money box on the table
- and create a sign inspiring guests to look at the books and providing payment instructions
Another good place for a Smart Table is in the temple room near Srila Prabhupada’s murti. When you show your guests around and introduce them to Srila Prabhupada, you can also tell them about his work and show them his books. They will be even more inspired if they see some of the books on the Deity altar and understand how valuable they are.
Wherever you place your book table, it is important to have it well stocked. Perhaps the Sunday feast lecturer may like to feature one of Srila Prabhupada's books in his talk, and then you can consider offering a discount on the featured book. Make sure to have a good supply of this book on hand.
